Logitech G5 Gaming Mouse 2007 Revision

Logitech G5 Gaming Mouse 2007 RevisionLogitech’s G5 gaming mouse has been the yard stick to which all other gaming mice have been compared to since it was released in Q3 ’05, now in 2007 Logitech have released an updated version in an attempt to continue their market dominance.

The ’07 G5 still uses the same excellent 2000dpi Laser scanning engine as the original, as well as the on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment without the need for drivers, and the adjustable weight cartridge in its base. So it seems that not a lot has changed... well that’s true, this is only a revision, not a whole new product, and Logitech have used it to give the G5 a new look and address some of the aspects of the original that customers had issues with.

What they’ve fixed/changed:

*The Scroll Wheel – It now has a notchier feel and it’s now possible to click the middle mouse button (the scroll wheel button) without moving the wheel itself, which would often mess-up in-game selections.

*A Second Thumb Button – Previous Logitech models such as the MX-518 had two thumb buttons, but the original G5 only had one, which disappointed a lot of people. Logitech have fixed this in the ’07 model with the inclusion of a second, which by default acts as a “forward” button in your web browser.

*The top section and buttons – No longer has that airbrushed brown on silver colour scheme, it has been replaced with a much better looking black over blue colour scheme with a highly textured feel, and it looks great.

*Faster USB – The ’07 G5 can now do 1000 reports per second versus the original’s 500 reports per second, giving even better response.

The rest of the mouse is essentially the same, especially the way it works in windows and in games which is what is important. The price of this new version is only about $5 dearer than the original, which is now completely discontinued, so this new ’07 revision is the only one now available on the market. The King is dead, long live the King.
